The most powerful shamans from Sweden, Greenland, Mexico, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, South Korea, and Kazakhstan have arrived in the Republic of Tuva in southern Siberia for a new international festival devoted to shamanic culture.

Drum rites, rituals, meditation, mysteries, and throat singing are all part of the program. The organizers also promise to hold interesting seminars and master classes on the spiritual practices of shamans and divination.

All those interested will also be taught the “Eagle” dance, which is part of the Un-Hun spiritual health program. The global goal of the festival is the revival of the shamanic traditions.

Shamanism is one of mankind’s most ancient spiritual practices, prevalent in Siberia as far back as the Bronze Age. The role of the shaman in society was to act as an intermediary between this world and the next.

The shaman falls into a trance, becomes possessed by spirits, and starts the kamlanie, or shamanistic ritual, through which he communicates with the spirits, almost journeying with them through ethereal worlds. It is accompanied by ritualistic dancing and singing. In Tuva, shamanism exists alongside Buddhism. And during the kamlanie, Tuvan shamans use the renowned technique of throat singing.

Russia’s Tuva Republic is located in Siberia on the border with Mongolia. It was the last republic to join the former Soviet Union, in 1944. Tuva Republic is known worldwide for its throat singing. Vocal ensembles from the republic are frequent guests at international music festivals.
