On the last day of summer, August 31, several thousand young people gathered on Tokorevskaya Koshka Lighthouse beach to sprinkle, pour, and smear each other with colored paint. The world-famous Holi Festival of Colors was celebrated in Vladivostok for the first time.

Two hours before the start of the festival, a long line of people had already gathered at the beach, all wanting to get dirty in a colorful sense.

Clothed in their "Sunday worst" with pockets full of hidden gadgets in the hope of preserving them, they awaited their portion of positive energy in the form of bags of multi-colored paint.

Within the first few minutes, having burst through the site perimeter, the first revelers were frenziedly chucking colored "flour" at each other. Staying clean was not an option.

In the words of Denis Sharov, the organizer of the Holi Festival of Colors in Vladivostok, in addition to hundreds of kilos of granular Indian paint, dozens of liters of gouache were also prepared for the event.

The site featured various interactive activities: trampolines, twisters, dance flash mobs. Anyone who wanted could load a water pistol with paint or plain water, or fill up a plastic bottle.

Danil, 14: "I got a call from my friends. I had nothing to do on the last day of summer. And when else could you get to daub yourself with paint? I'm not too grieved about the clothes, I got a kick out of it. Now I'm thinking how to get home — on the bus, probably, like everyone else."

Natalia, 19: "I read about the festival online, and it sounded really interesting. I came to the festival in my hand-me-downs, though I heard it would all wash off. It reminds me so much of childhood.”

Vlad, 18: "I volunteered to help the organizers of this great event right from the start. I wasn't actually planning on getting dirty, because today I'm giving a recital on the Street of Arts. But since it's not possible to stay clean, I thought it would be cool if I read my poems covered in paint.”

After the final battle, thousands of paint-smeared youngsters launched hundreds of colored balloons skyward. The Holi Festival of Colors ended with a fire show by the group Emotion.
