On Saturday and Sunday July 20-21, Moscow hosted the annual road race Moscow City Racing (MCR) around the walls of the Kremlin, involving Formula One teams. As one of the world's largest auto shows with the participation of racing "royalty," it has taken place in the Russian capital since 2008.

Five world-renowned teams lined up at the start: Vodafone McLaren Mercedes (driver Jenson Button), Marussia F1 Team (Max Chilton), Scuderia Ferrari (Kamui Kobayashi), Lotus F1 Team (Davide Valsecchi), Caterham F1 Team (Heikki Kovalainen).

One of the main intrigues of MCR-2013 was, of course, the fact that 2014 will see the first F1 Grand Prix in Russia (Sochi). The question of who would represent the host country was, therefore, paramount: it is due to be the Russian-British team Marussia Motors.

Marussia Motors intially entered Formula One as the official partner of the Virgin Racing F1 team in the 2010 World Championship. It was later announced that a controling stake in Virgin Racing had been acquired and the team renamed Marussia Virgin Racing. By the 2011 season, it was already officially operating under a Russian license.

How Marussia performs this season will largely determine its success at the Sochi Grand Prix, as well as Russia's inclusion in the list of "F1 countries," which not only have a suitable race track, but also a competitive team.

Besides Formula 1, MCR-2013 also featured the participation of teams from other, no less popular series. They included Russia's KamAZ-Master team from the Dakar and Silk Road rally raids.

DTM AudiSport Team Abt Sportsline was represented by driver Mike Rockenfeller, BMW Team RMG by Andy Priaulx, and AMG-Mercedes by Ralf Schumacher and Russia's Vitaly Petrov.

As for this renowned Russian racer, he delighted onlookers not only with the filigree handling of his DTM fireball. At MCR-2013, Vitaly Petrov unveiled the eagerly awaited Yo-Mobile, the Russian auto industry's latest innovation from the company YO-AVTO. At the helm of the all-wheel-drive Yo-Crossover, of which only five exist in Russia, Petrov covered the MCR track at a fairly brisk pace.

Also represented at MCR-2013 was the World Rally Championship. Here, Spanish racing virtuoso Daniel Sordo Castillo in the colors of Citroen enjoyed unflinching success with his enraptured audience. Over the course of two days, the Spaniard demonstrated a level of driving that was utterly supreme.

Despite the less than perfect weather conditions that caused a number of incidents, the event was a success. Several tens of thousands of spectators gathered to watch the racing and the heats.
