The Primorskaya mine where the Amber Combine extracts up to 400 tons of amber a year in the town of Yantarny, Kaliningrad region, Russia (1279 km from Moscow). This is Russia’s only official amber mine. The Soviet Union took over what is now Kaliningrad from Nazi Germany in 1945. Germans pioneered industrial amber mining in the region that was known as Eastern Prussia.
