A windsurfing board differs from a surf board only in its form. The sail is manufactured from a durable material, while the board is made from carbon fiber.

The board’s top part is coarse and rugged which gives the surfer greater stability. Its lower part has special stabilizing fins.

Windsurfing is enjoyed by those who aren’t afraid to fight with the wind and who can give the waves a run for their money. A good breeze helps reach speeds of up to 10-12 m/s.

In Sochi, people can go windsurfing in Khost. It is a great place for surfing thanks to the features of its scenic relief: there’s always a clear sea, waves, and wind. You can surf here from the beginning of May to the end of October.

The first mention of windsurfing in the Soviet Union dates back to the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Nevertheless, experienced windsurfers consider the Sea of Azov “the Mecca of Russian windsurfing”, not the Black Sea. The best areas are considered to be the city of Yeysk and the village of Dolzhanskaya—and rightly so.

Board surfing is gaining more and more popularity in Russia. This youth sport is becoming a favorite thing to do for adults, too, who throw off work and a serious career for a while to find the best spots in Russia to dive into deep waves of pleasure from wind to waves and a shaky board under their feet.
