Viktor Vasnetsov, an outstanding Russian painter and one of the founders of the national romantic version of Russian art nouveau, was born on May 15, 1848, in the village of Lopyal in Vyatka Province. Viktor Vasnetsov

In August 1867, Vasnetsov departed for St Petersburg to study at the Imperial Academy of Arts. His experience there contributed to the success of his subsequent oil paintings: "The poor singers" and "Drinking tea in a tavern," which reflected his study of human nature and social phenomena. // "Drinking tea in a tavern", 1874

In the spring of 1876, having graduated from the Academy, Vasnetsov, at the invitation of Repin, with whom he was on particularly good terms, moved to Paris, where he worked for more than a year. Alongside "Three princesses", he created the picture "Alyonushka," which reflects the spiritual bond between man and nature, revealing the artist's innate gift for landscape painting. All Vasnetsov's full-sized landscapes were painted not far from the village of Abramtsevo at Savva Mamontov's estate. In 1885, he was offered the task of adorning Vladimir Cathedral in Kiev (1885-1896). The assignment fulfilled one of the artist's desires. Vasnetsov worked on the cathedral for more than ten years.
