The celebration was attended by guests from 64 regions of Russia. More than 8000 people in total took part.

The sports arena featured a theatrical performance and traditional sporting competitions: sack races, running with buckets, pot smashing, sack fighting on logs. But the main sporting event of the festival was kurash (belt wrestling).

An exhibition of handicrafts and a fair were also organized as part of the festival at which guests were able to purchase national souvenirs, such as traditional Tatar clothes - embroidered skullcaps and robes, which were presented to the governor of Tyuman Oblast, Vladimir Yakushev, at the opening ceremony.

One of the surprises of the Sabantuy was a giant chak-chak - a traditional dish of Tatar cuisine. Three hundred eggs and more than 75 kg of honey went into this 200-kg "sweet haystack," made by culinary experts from Nizhnekamsk.

The president of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, took part in the festival. The day before saw the signing of a cooperation agreement between the heads of Tatarstan and Tyumen Oblast.

According to a press release from the governor of Tyumen Oblast, it supplements the agreement concluded in 1998 and envisages collaboration between the two regions in the fields of economics, education, health, and culture.

Governor of Tyumen Oblast Vladimir Yakushev: "For us, the festival is important because Tatars make up the second largest nation in the region, accounting for around 8% of the population."

The final act was the handover of the festival symbol - the "Tulpar at" statuette - to a representative of Tomsk Oblast. That is where Russia's main Sabantuy will take place next year.
