Its uniqueness is dictated by the traditional venue: the Melikhovo Chekhov Estate Museum. The natural setting of the estate stamps its mark on the Melikhovo festival program, which consists only of performances based on works by or about Chekhov.

传统的举办地点——契诃夫房地产博物馆是“梅利霍沃之春”戏剧节的独特之处。村中邮票上的自然风景体现了戏剧节时将要上演的剧目，所有剧目均为契诃夫作品或与其有关的作品。
The tradition began in 1982, when Chekhov's "The Seagull" was first staged in the museum. The festival became international in 2000.

Founded in 1954, the town of Chekhov was named after the Russian writer right from the start. The choice of name was conditioned by the proximity of Melikhovo Estate, where Anton Chekhov lived and worked.

The festival will run until May 18 and is expected to attract around 2000 visitors. The Melihovo Estate receives around 80,000 tourists a year.
