Locals usually go fishing to the north of Olkhon Island. There, on the ice, they pitch their tents, warm them with an old heating stove, and pull out their nets full of fish from the ice-holes.

当地人经常到奥利洪岛北面去钓鱼。他们在冰面上搭起帐篷，用老式采暖炉取暖，从冰洞中拖拽出装满鱼的渔网。
"Nowadays there's not that much omul in Baikal. Years ago we got more than a ton from only one fishing net!" says one of the local fishermen.

During Soviet times there were two fisheries in Khuzhir, but both are now bankrupt. Fishermen here remember it with regret: "We used to breed fish... but now we can only catch them."

在苏联时期，胡日尔有两个渔场，但现在都已破败。渔民们不无遗憾地回忆道：“过去，我们饲养鱼类……，但现在，却只能捕捞它们。”
On the question of what to do with a ton of fish, the fishermen respond that they sell it at Khuzhir port for 40 rubles per kilogram.

关于怎么处理捕捞到的成吨鱼类，渔民们表示会将它们以每公斤40卢布的价格在胡日尔港口卖掉。
Almost half of their catch the fishermen take to the smoking plant in Khuzhir. Tourists buy a lot of fish here, so it doesn't lie around unsold.

Nadezhda Pavlovna works in the smokehouse in Khuzhir. It is she who sells the famous Baikal cold-smoked omul throughout the country!

Khuzhir is a picturesque place. Some parts are reminiscent of Europe, others of native Siberia.

Most locals work in the services sector. There is a tourist information center, a network of family hotels and tourist facilities. Fishing is without doubt the most popular pastime among tourists.

The main enterprise used to be the Malomorsky fishery, which employed almost the entire population. Today production is minimal, and substantial investment is required to restore it.
